'Future Places' conference and festival Porto, October 2011.

Description of work:
'Future Places' is an annual digital media event hosted by the University of Porto, Portugal and The University of Texas, Austin, USA. The festival has an annual theme, for 2011 it was 'Digital media and local cultures'. The festival is held over a five day period and comprises of an exhibition (Taylor exhibited the work 'Losing Ground' video & audio), a conference, events and peformances.

Taylor presented a paper at the conference on the theme of 'creative uses of digital technology in curricular environments'.

Synopsis:
"Phil Taylor will discuss the integration of constantly evolving digital media practices and applications within the creative environments of higher education, specifically focusing on moving image and video. How this medium is taught, how it is employed, and how it is perceived by both tutor and student, underpinned by the main question of what are the broader cultural implications of using contemporary digital media within the curriculum?"
